October Events and School Traffic Arrangements

NOTICE FOR PARENTS – OCTOBER EVENTS
OCTOBER
Friday 2nd School closed – Lisbon Treaty

Saturday 3rd Crossmolina Board of Management and Parents Association are hosting a farewell get-together in Crossmolina N.S. after 8pm Mass for Mr. Tony Tighe who retired on August 31st. The Children’s choir will sing at the Mass. The whole school community are invited to wish Tony well in his retirement.

Monday 5th Information night for Parents/Guardians of all pupils 8pm – 9pm
Friday 9th Children go home at 12.30pm to facilitate Staff meeting.
26th – 30th school closed - mid-term break

School traffic arrangements- In order to prevent an accident waiting to happen please help in making the new traffic arrangements in the church yard work.
· The car park next to the Basketball Court is Staff parking only. You are welcome to use spaces for drop-off but not for parking. There is also a footpath which leads directly to the school from the roadway which your child can use safely.
· Church yard parking – Could we ask that as you enter the church gate you veer to your left and drop your child/children off at the footpath without delay, continue up the Church yard turning right in front of the bollards and exiting at the rear.If you wish to accompany your child in to the school, please find a parking space and do not park against the footpath provided for ‘drop and go’ or obstruct the drive-through.To enable children walk safely from the right hand side of the church to the school, bollards have been placed at the edge of the cobble stones close to the front of the church and that path leads straight to the school gate.
CHILDREN NEED TO BE ACCOMPANIED DIRECTLY TO THE FOOTPATH OR COBBLESTONE WALKWAY AND SHOULD AVOID CROSSING THROUGH TRAFFIC. The same traffic procedures should follow during the school day.

This is experiment to maximize your child’s safety as they approach and leave the school. If you have any suggestions to improve this system please share them with me. I thank you once again most sincerely for your co-operation in all matters.

Mary A. Cawley, Principal.

Notice to Parents – 2nd September 2009

Welcome back everybody and a special welcome to our new entrants throughout the school and their parents.
Our main concern at the start of this school year was of course to help prevent the spread of Pandemic (H1N1) (which is more commonly referred to as Swine Influenza).
We are trying to make children more aware of hygiene and spreading of germs and we would be grateful if you could assist in carrying out the awareness at home. The following is quoted from the Information Sheet received in school:“Respiratory Etiquette – students/staff should cover their mouth and nose with a paper tissue when coughing or sneezing. If no tissue is available they should cough or sneeze into the inside of their elbow. A tissue should be used only once and disposed of quickly and carefully (a dustbin is fine). Waste, including used tissues, may be disposed of in the normal way. There is no need to take special precautions in the handling of such waste.
Hand Hygiene – students/staff should wash their hands with soap and water. Hand drying facilities must not be shared between people. Hence the type of hand drying facilities that can be used include paper towels (which are disposed of into waste bins), hot air hand dryers, roller towels, or students and staff members could be asked to bring in the use of their own individual towel. ”

This week the school has supplied anti-bacteria hand gel, paper towels, tissues and soaps. However there is no extra funding for the supplies and so we are asking each child to bring in their own individual towel in a plastic bag (a small face-towel will suffice) and the school will supply the soap. If you wish to send a small anti-bacteria gel and tissues also in the bag please do so.

OTHER ITEMS TO BE AWARE OF:
1. School lunches are now available. Please encourage your child to avail of this Scheme. Please send a lunch box with your child and any uneaten food will be sent home in the lunch box).

Keeping Swine Flu out of our School

With regard to our return to school this week, some steps have been taken to curb the threat of Swine Flue in our school. All children will have access to a hand sanitisor when they arrive to school in the morning, and are encouraged to wash their hands frequently during the day.

We also encourage parents of children who are displaying flue like symptoms to keep their children at home to prevent the spread of any germs or colds- not just Swine Flue....

We also encourage parents to educate their children in good hygiene practice...
